PechaKucha 20×20

This quarter, I would like you to deliver a PechaKucha 20×20 presentation. According to the official PechaKucha website, “PechaKucha 20×20 is a simple presentation format where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. The images advance automatically and you talk along with the images.”

Each presentation will be 6 minutes and 40 seconds in length. The format places emphasis on conciseness and brevity. Since the images are set to a timer, you have to plan your narrative and/or commentary to coincide with the 20 second intervals. For an example, we can take a look at Yoko Shimizu’s “When Art and Science Collide” and this retrospective of Pixar films.

Your presentation may be on any subject. Is your iPhone filled with pictures of delicious meals you’ve eaten? Share them and their stories with us. Are you an ace computer programmer? Show off some of your creations and explain why they’re |_|83r [“the awesomest”]. Nurturing an unashamed fondness for North America’s only marsupial? Geek out over your obsessive opossum passion. If you’re inspired to speak about it, it’s an excellent topic.

Please use PowerPoint (or Google Slides) to organize your presentation’s images and make sure that the images in your slideshow are 100% original. You may have prewritten notes, but please make them as inconspicuous as possible — e.g., use notecards, not a standard sheet of paper — and resist the urge to rely on them. Instead, experiment with using the slideshow images to prompt your commentary.

Perhaps, if you enjoy this experience, you can give your presentation at one of Champaign-Urbana’s PechaKucha Nights in the near future.

You will find the rubric that I used to follow for this assignment here. It will highlight the practices in the presentation that are most important.

For instructions on how to automate your presentation in PowerPoint, please see this post. Thanks to Rico for the tips!

For instructions on how to automate your presentation in Google Slides, please see this post. Thanks to Nathaniel for the tips! EDIT: Google Slides seems to have changed and it’s not clear how to automate the slides. PowerPoint will give you fewer problems.
